'FRANKIE' is a

Super 8 short film co-created by

Vic Terry and Cassidy Bartolomei

that premiered at Cinema Under the Stars on 10/31/23.

"THE CAMERA IS ALWAYS ROLLING, AND

IT'S A ROLL THAT SHE WAS BORN TO PLAY."

In the summer of 2022, Vic Terry approached Cassidy Bartolomei with an idea

for an idea, and together, they stepped into a black and white world clouded by the dichotomies that create touches of grey— the touches which make life both electrifying and at times, unbearable. After several conversations that reeked more of philosophy than scriptwriting, 'FRANKIE' began to breathe life.

Colorless. Wordless. Analog. An end in herself.

Both the film and its creation are a journey of self-love in the pursuit of shameless authenticity. From the beginning, Frankie's creators knew that there was something powerful about telling her story through Super 8 Film. ‘FRANKIE’ is a film about a woman—an artist—who is so consumed by the need to perfectly curate her world, her work, and her entire sense of self that it begins to destroy her. It’s a story about finding a way to let go of that need for control and to allow for total acceptance. It's a guide on how to break out of the structured black and white to allow yourself to dance in that uncomfortable grey.

Super 8 is a medium that forces you to give up control and take a leap of faith.

You’ve got to trust your work and keep rolling even though you can’t see what you’ve shot until it’s been developed. No matter how well you plan or how much you rehearse, there’s an inherent risk to using analog technology. What if this camera from 1974 decides to tap out unexpectedly? What if the film runs out mid-shot and cuts off the end of a perfect take? What if you send the footage in for processing and it gets lost in the mail? But with all that uncertainty comes something really beautiful, really authentic, and a look and feel that can’t be replicated. To produce a film like this, you’ve just got to trust your work, trust your team, and trust the universe.

'FRANKIE' is a testament to the agony and ecstasy of storytelling itself.
